We are delighted to share with our staff, customers, suppliers, stakeholders and everybody else in between that we have officially surpassed half-a-century of operations!

In Australia, 1973 saw:

  • The federal voting age lowered from 21 to 18;

  • The Sydney Opera House officially opened by Elizabeth II;

  • AC/DC perform their first major gig in Sydney;

  • Stirling Metals commence business on the 1st of December in Claremont, W.A!

See below a message from David Stirling, Chief Executive Officer:

“In the year of fifty years of business continuance, offering a genuine thank you, to all of our past & present employees, suppliers, service providers & customers, for the business support, contribution & participation.

As stakeholders, through focus, dedication, innovation, investment & sheer hard work, we can be proud of the opportunities created, performance delivered & achievements attained.

Our business is established, relevant & performing, providing a platform for sustainable continuance & growth.

In the years ahead, inviting stakeholders to follow our Mission, practice our Strategies & Values, to progress our Vision.”

Rob Grace, Chief Commercial Officer celebrating his 40 years at Stirlings, provides a sales perspective:

“50 years of sales – starting from a very small base of people, facility & inventories in a privately owned company with a long term outlook, it’s about sustainable growth with periods of risk & reward that helped fund growth over these many years.

From being experts at trading to fill customer needs, to having high % stock on hand; from sales in your own state to expanding across all states & adding stocking locations; from packaging only from Australian suppliers to worldwide indenting including international customers; From 1 truck, 1 forklift & 1 bandsaw to many & multiple Processing machines including Plasma & Lasers - we have seen how positive the effect of sustainable growth has been.

We have developed (very) long term relationships with customers, and from a card system to state of the art computers & software, we use our years of knowledge, consistent development and continuous innovation to provide the best service to our customers - it has always been our top priority.”

See below our progression over the years, from our very beginnings to our present as a nationwide Performance Metals Distributor, and beyond!

1970s - Commencement

Stirling Metals commenced operations on Shenton Road in Claremont, W.A, on December 1st 1973.

We operated from our Claremont location in the mid to late 70s, conducting deliveries around Perth in our Stirling trucks.

1980s - Expansion

The 1980s saw us contruct a purpose built site at 15 Sherman Street, Canning Vale in W.A, giving us greatly increased storage capacity in a new and developing industrial area.

We concluded our arrangement with Atlas Steels to become completely independent.

1990s - Continuous development

We continued to increase our inventory, equipment and capability throughout the 90s in our Canning Vale warehouse.

In 1998 we changed our name to Stirling Stainless Steel, demonstrating our very strong focus on the distribution of Stainless steels.

2000s - Worldwide supply

Now Stirlings Australia, we saw our business from an international perspective, heading overseas to find key suppliers from around to world to best serve our customers. From Germany to Taiwan, no stone was left unturned in developing our supply chain.

We opened our second Distribution site in Hobart in 2008, a landmark event.

2010s - Locations nationwide

The 2010s saw us change from Stirlings Australia to Stirlings Performance Steels.

In 2013, our W.A branch moved from Canning Vale (10,000m²) to Bibra Lake (27,000m²) as we continued to increase our range and depth of product, adding Laser Processing to Plasma and ensuring our place as one of the top stocking distributors of Stainless steel and Performance metals in the nation. We had a trade counter from the 80s, and expanded this into starting the Instore Shop in 2013.

We opened our third Distribution site in Queensland, reaching a bigger customer base than ever before.

2020s (so far) and beyond

The 2022 saw the arrival of the Biggest Laser in Australasia! Stirlings' Penta Bolt 12025 VII 20KW high speed Fiber Laser is in operation in our Bibra Lake warehouse, along with top-quality machinery all over the country.

We opened our Victoria site in 2022 and NSW site in 2023, entering the two largest cities in Australia.

Stirlings is committed to continuously supporting those in need through charitable donations, as we have done for many years. We are also devoted to a green future, reducing energy consumption with new technologies, employing recyclable packaging materials and working with sustainable suppliers such as Outokumpu.

With our ever growing team of passionate people, our goal is to continue to provide our customers with the best possible service and value for many more years to come!
